  • Carrot Ranch Literary Community
    Carrot Ranch Literary Community
Carrot Ranch is an international online literary community dedicated to writing prompted 99-word stories every week. Developed in 2014, creator and lead buckaroo, Charli Mills, has published weekly digital collections, providing a global voice for creative writers. Each collection connects ideas, perspectives, and creative expression on a single topic or theme like literary anthropology. During the pandemic, a diverse group of writers wrote columns at Carrot Ranch to address the writer’s journey and influences. In 2022, columns shifted to focus on craft and inclusion. Headquartered on the Keweenaw Peninsula, Carrot Ranch acknowledges Ojibwa traditional and modern homelands, amplifying the works of local Indigenous authors, poets, and storytellers. Local writers can take immersive nature, historical, or craft workshops during the summer and fall months at various UP locations. Starting in 2023, the organization will launch a Writer’s Rustic Residency to introduce non-UP writers to the great UP outdoors with remote writing and community engagement. As an online hub for literary outreach, the Carrot Ranch community joyfully expresses its diversity of age, place, genders, peoples, and creative writing to welcome others to write 99-words at a time. Carrot Ranch wrangles creative writing with those who dare greatly.

Arts & Culture: Literature & Poetry
Last Letters/No Regrets seeks to promote healing and remembrance through writing. It began with a request from a young parent who was dying. Knowing she would miss graduations, weddings, and births, she wanted to leave love letters for her family to enjoy when these future happy events unfolded. As a result of this experience, I am motivated to help others find emotional and spiritual closure in their lives through writing. Last Letters/No Regrets is designed to address the needs of people who want to express themselves on paper, but need help getting the letter or project started. Your personal endeavor can be about you, a relative or friend, an occurrence in your life, a piece of history that intersects with your family’s life, or an unresolved issue you want to unpack and heal. My job is to be a cheerleader, editor, and ghostwriter so you produce a meaningful document. Past projects include: Letters to loved ones Heritage, or legacy projects Eulogy of a loved one Family narrative Historical timeline of a family Ancestral review of a relative Journal entry Your motivation can be as a family historian, a loving friend or relative, or a personal healing project that results in the preservation of a memory, piece of family history, or relationship.
