The Women’s Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was established in 1973 with a mission to support victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children through programs that protect, educate, advocate, counsel, and empower.

It is the only operating domestic violence and sexual assault organization in Alger and Marquette counties. It is also the longest continuously standing domestic violence and sexual assault agency in the State of Michigan as well as one of the oldest in the nation. The organization serves 8473 square miles of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and provides a 24/7 crisis hotline and emergency response for domestic violence and sexual assault, supportive counseling and advocacy, services to children who have been exposed to violence, transitional supportive housing, and community education and outreach.

The Women’s Center, Inc. opened Harbor House in 1986, a safe haven for women, men and their children fleeing unsafe living situations with nowhere to go.  When survivors of domestic or sexual violence can feel safe in their own living environment, they can begin the process of healing through counseling at the shelter.
